The Black Student Leadership Council (BSLC) was established at the University of Texas at San Antonio Fall 2008.  It began as an organization composed of officers of black student organizations on campus working in a collaborative effort to maximize attendance and participation at events.

Today, BSLC's members are composed of a variety of students from different organizations, majors and backgrounds. All of our members come together in an effort to create and sustain an organization that involves students both socially and academically.

Members of BSLC work  to promote community interaction among African-American, African, and African-Caribbean students at the University of Texas San Antonio as well as facilitate dialogue between our community and the broader San Antonio community.

As an organization we encourage all of our members to take leadership roles in events both within and outside of BSLC.

The Black Student Leadership Council with the support of numerous faculty, staff, students, campus organizations and offices, has successfully held events that have helped to better the academic and social experience for Black students and the UTSA community.  With the support of UTSA's Provosts, Dr. John Frederick and Dr. Gage Paine and the Inclusion and Community Engagement Center, BSLC constructed The Black Education Project (BEP).  The main goal of which is to better the academic status of San Antonio's low socio-economic and minority communities through awareness of educational opportunities at UTSA. In addition, the BEP also promotes community involvement of UTSA's student organizations, faculty and staff.

For more information on BEP and some of the other events and programs BSLC is involved in please visit some of our other web sites which can be found at the top of this page.

If you would like to be involved in BSLC or learn more about our organization feel free to contact us by emailing BSLC.UTSA@gmail.com, also follow us on Twitter at @UTSA_BSLC.
