Black Education Project/College Day

DAY: April 28th
TIME: 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
WHAT IS IT: A day where we bring in inner-city students to UTSA for presentations and tours facilitated mostly by current students (approximately a 100 students). The event is student planned and student ran. Lunch will be provided by the support of different vendors.
We will be utilizing the Ballroom area and Bexar room for facilitation. Tours will be offered during the experience of the campus. There will slots to help in ALL aspects of the day.

Please let us know if you will be able to help out at this event. We would like to see all council members participating in this event!!!

Instead of meeting tonight please meet at the Retama for the I AM TRAYVON MARTIN march at 6pm.

If you're not familiar with the case Trayvon Martin was a 17 year old boy shot and killed on the way to a family member’s house, while coming back from the convenience store. All he had in hand candy and a drink when a neighborhood watch member deemed him as a "suspicious... character". In the end George Zimmerman (the shooter) was not charged for the killing of young Trayvon Martin. So what are we going to do to about it......In honor of Trayvon and the Martin family, I would like for us to come together and show support for the injustice show in this case.

How will we do this?

On Wednesday March 28, 2012 UTSA will have its own march to help support the cause. We will meet in the Retama, where you will receive information as to how to sign the petition to bring justice to Trayvon Martin. Following that we will march from the Recreation Center, through campus.***Please ware a Black Hoodie or Black shirt***

Tacos for Sale

Tomorrow, (Tuesday, February 21st from 9am-2 pm), we will be selling tacos, bean and cheese (in the morning) and fajitas (in the afternoon) along with Capri suns and water. Come out and get some food for a decent price. yummmmmmm

Attention fellow BSLC members & council members in training,

We will be having a meeting tonight at 6 pm in the Anaqua Room. We will be finishing up creating the questions for our event on Nov. 16, Policing the Police. Bring an open mind and fresh ideas so that we may make this event successful.

Council members in training, please make sure that you keep in contact with your assigned returning council member. It is vital that you do this for this is what will partly determine your acceptance into the council.

Mentors, please make sure you are communicating with your mentee regularly. Remember that you have signed up to do this, so make sure that you are taking responsibility for the actions that need to be taken.

1) At tonight's meeting we will be discussing the pros and cons of the event Mom and Me! Also, we will be getting ready to promote/plan the event Policing the Police. Please come ready with ideas to make this event an even greater success
